Your EuroVelo Moment 2016
EuroVelo 15 Summer Photo Contest:
Also this year we organised a Photo Contest but this year our focus was on the EuroVelo 15, the first certified route of our network. The best three pictures of the EuroVelo 15 Summer Photo Contest came from Arturo Martinez, Michael Mayer and Pepa Hernandez.
Getting the most likes and shares, Arturo Martinez (see picture below) was the lucky winner of our main prize, the 8 days / 7 nights cycle touring package along a section of the EuroVelo 15 - Rhine Cycle Route. The second and third places went to Michael Mayer and Pepa Hernandez. Both received a EuroVelo map, ideal to plan your next cycle holidays!
We received a lot of beautiful pictures and thank you once again for sharing your most impressive moments of your cycle holidays with us. You can find all the pictures submitted to the photo contest in our Facebook gallery here.
Around 2,000 new cycle kilometres for the EuroVelo network:
This year we could add two big cycling routes to our combined over 70,000 kilometres containing long distance routes. On the one hand the Rhone Cycle Route - 1,100 breath taking kilometres from the Swiss Alps to the Mediterranean has officially become EuroVelo Route 17. On the other hand the network has been extended by over 900 kilometres along Portugal's beautiful and sunny Atlantic Coast.
Our EuroVelo Insider Tips:
From April to August we published 5 in our mind very interesting Insider Tips of the EuroVelo Management Team.
Ed startet with an inspiration to cycle on the EuroVelo 2 through his home country in the UK while Marco gave an overview about history at its best on EuroVelo 5 in his beloved Italy. However Kevin and Jesus like to cycle through their home countries as well but they are also very inspired by the Lithuanian seaside on the EuroVelo 10 and the cycle ways along the Danube river on the EuroVelo 6. Finally Julien completed the multi-purpose series by promoting a cycle mix of his French and German origins, the French-German border on the EuroVelo 15.
Impressive personal cycling stories and successful fulfilled dreams and challenges:
During the year we continuously received fascinating stories about your cycling trips from all over Europe. It was so much that we still have some stories on the pipeline we like to share with you but we didn't had the time for it so far. But you can be sure they will follow!
It is hard to smooth the most striking articles of the year as the Australian couple Gary and Rachel Corbett for example who set within 220 days a new record for the longest e-bike tour, when they overtook the previous best to the new record of 16,047 km in January using different EuroVelo routes.
Or there was the cyclist who went out in the cold on an old GDR shopping bike. The british author Tim Moore understook a truly epic cycle ride on the Eurovelo 13 - the long route of our network and its own website is available as well in French and German since this year by the way.
We can only recommend to zone out and to be lost in thought while scrolling through all the other different stories we posted on our news :)
Coming to an end the EuroVelo Team wishes all the best for Christmas and a happy new year 2017, when sharing even better EuroVelo moments with you!
